Symposium: Creative Cities and Industries in the 21st Century

Description
The ´Creative Cities and Industries in the 21st Century´ symposium in Istanbul is part of the Istanbul´s 2010 European Capital of Culture activities and will be hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Design, Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul in cooperation with UNCTAD. The forum will facilitate discussions on how the prominent cities in the world use their cultural policies for developing cultural and creative industries. Debates will be centered on how Istanbul could make the beset use of the opportunity of being a European Capital of Culture in 2010 for adopting a new urban development strategy with focus on the creative economy. The symposium will include the following sessions: Creative Cities and Industries: Visions and Challenges; Global Perspective on Creative Cities ; Creative Industries as National and Urban Economic Growth Model ; Creative Industry Entrepreneurs - Case Studies; Ranking Global Cities; Istanbul: from Capital of Culture to Creative Global City. One of the expected outcomes of Istanbul 2010, is to pave the way for establishing a creative industries and cities institute in Turkey, with the institutional support of UNCTAD.

Notes/Key results
The event will have the participation of high-level government officials, the Secretary General of UNCTAD, experts and academics as well as the general public working in the area of creative industries.
