Description
The course represents a level 1 activity of the WTO's 3-level Progressive
Learning Strategy for trade-related capacity-building and, once completed will
serve as a prerequisite for level 2 courses.
This
course introduces participants to the WTO, its basic rules and disciplines and
its functioning. The main objective is to provide participants with a good
foundation of the functioning, structure and basic principles of the WTO. This is done mainly through presentations and
exercises on the WTO's basic principles and exceptions thereto, as reflected in
the main WTO agreements, including highlighting the state of play of
negotiation since MC11. The development dimension in the context of Pacific
countries constitutes an important element of the programme. As per the request
from the Pacific Members, LDC graduation criteria and process as well as
possible options/strategies including in the context of WTO, following
