Nepal - Trade-related capacity building
The Government of Nepal (GoN) was in the process of updating its Nepal Trade and Competitiveness Study (NTIS), (also known as Diagnostic Trade Integration Study/DTIS) first formulated in 2003/04. This is part of GoN’s effort to implement the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) in Nepal. The objective of the project is to contribute to the preparation of the 2009 NTIS in the following areas: (i) analyzing export potential of selected key product and services sectors; (ii) identifying critical market entry issues faced by Nepali exporters to two key destination markets: China and India; and (iii) identifying strenghts/weaknesses of the trade support network and gaps in the provision of trade support services to Nepali exporters. The project will result in recommendations for priority action to address key contraints for exports with the aim to: (i) Developing a competitive export supply capacity in sectors that offers strong export potentials for Nepal; (ii) Strengthening the ability of Nepali exporters to enter key import markets in which those export potentials have the greatest market opportunities; and (iii) Strengthening the institutions that are intended to assist Nepali exporters to meet export challenges successfully and incrase their competitiveness.
