Description
This ISO-sponsored regional workshop will provide training to 10 to 15 experts from most Caribbean countries, the majority of which are WTO Members (exact list to be informed later on standards and TBT matters). It will include representatives of regulators and national standards bodies. ISO will cover the costs of organization, travel and accommodation of all participants (two per country). The only cost for WTO is travel and DSA for one staff member. The objectives of the workshop include promoting cooperation between standards bodies and regulators, from the region as well as internationally, by addressing issues of good regulatory practices and good practices in standards development, including through enhancing domestic coordination. Another objective is to promote the use of international standards as a basis for regulations and conformity assessment schemes. These are key challenges for developing Members in the implementation of the TBT Agreement, and the presence of WTO will deliver hands on training to better help Members in the region to use international standards and coordinate domestically in the development of standards and regulations.
