WTO/ELSA Moot/WITS University Regional African Round of University Competitions on WTO Law
Description
The ELSA WTO Moot Court competition is the only world-wide competition focused on understanding the substance and procedure of WTO dispute settlement. The aim of the Competition is threefold, firstly to encourage further development on the subject matter of the WTO in the curriculum of academic institutions. Secondly, to contribute to the on-going discussion regarding globalisation in the context of the WTO Agreements. Finally, to assist countries in developing their technical legal capacity by preparing the next generation of trade lawyers and negotiators The Competition is structured as a simulated WTO dispute with written submissions and oral arguments before a group of panelists. The Competition provides students with the opportunity to put theory into practice, thereby complimenting their theoretical legal education with clinical legal education. The results of the ELSA moot court in the past have been impressive with participants going on to complete advanced degrees
