Description
This is a follow-up workshop for the fourth Trade Policies Review (TPR) of Paraguay, held in  September 2017. During this review, WTO Members commended the progress made by Paraguay with respect to compliance with its WTO commitments, in particular regarding IPRs. However, they identified areas where improvement can be made, such as notification obligations and the implementation of WTO agreements, further improvement of IPR protection, trade facilitation, regulatory reforms to improve Paraguay's business environment and help address informality and other areas in which the updating and review of legislation would contribute to enhance welfare and promote growth. The workshop will be  conducted in the format of trade policies seminars, with an objective of dissemination of results from the Trade Policies Review of Paraguay to relevant stakeholders including governmental agencies, the private sector, civil society, and academia. The Workshop is intended to be instrumental in facilitating Paraguay's future reform agenda in the areas identified in the TPR by making the results of the TPR more widely available and identifying more clearly specific steps that need to be taken. This may also result in a better implementation of WTO Agreements and help Paraguay take better advantage of its participation in the multilateral trading system.
