National Export Strategy of Kyrgyzstan and Myamar
Description
Currently, neither Kyrgyzstan nor Myanmar has a NES, or an equivalent architecture, to develop the export sector. However, both countries recognize the importance establishing a plan to capture the potential contribution of exports to socio-economic growth. In addition to the absence of a trade development framework, an initial review of trade support services in Kyrgyzstan identified a fragmented delivery structure, leading to various gaps and duplications services delivery by public and private institutions. There is an identified need to define strategic activities ensure exporters receive the appropriate services in line with national export development priorities. In Myanmar, an initial review of trade support services will also be conducted and an appropriate response included in the NES. Furthermore, in Kyrgyzstan there is no active mechanism to coordinate trade development across the different donor and international agencies. There is not private/public/donor dialogue platform on export development nor is there a formal public and private dialogue platform to enable decision-makers integrate business dimensions into trade development plans. Similarly to Kyrgyzstan, in Myanmar the time is ripe to define and implement a framework for Aid for Trade to be aligned with national priorities to ensure coherence in this important period. Finally, both countries will benefit from technical assistance in the area of export strategy design and management since it is perceived that existing capacities and resources are low.
