Description
The course represents a level 1 activity of the WTO's 3-level Progressive Learning Strategy for trade-related capacity-building and, once completed, serves as a prerequisite for level two courses. This course introduces participants to the WTO, its basic rules and disciplines and its functioning. Briefing on overall WTO work in progress is an integral part of the course. The development dimension, with a particular focus on LDC-related issues, constitutes an important module in the programme. LDCs delegates in Geneva are involved in a roundtable discussion. Speakers from other Geneva-based organisations, such as representatives from the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) provide a broader appreciation of the work being carried out by other organisations on behalf of LDCs. A presentation of the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL) also constitutes a regular feature of the programme. This activity is held in English and forms part of the WTO Technical Assistance and Training Plan.
