The WTO national
seminar on agriculture, organized by the Agriculture and Commodities Division
(AGCD) and the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC), offers
specialized training to governmental officials involved in agricultural negotiations
for the accession of the Bahamas.
The general aim of
the seminar is to enable participants to improve their understanding of the
provisions of the Agreement on Agriculture, more specifically in the area of
tariff quotas and farm subsidies, so as to enable their effective participation
in the accession negotiations on agricultural matters. The seminar will also
prepare the participating officials to understand the implementation challenges
of the various agriculture obligations that they would be subject to upon the
conclusion of the membership negotiations. Some important decisions adopted in
the agriculture negotiations including on TRQ administration will also be
discussed. The implementation aspects will be discussed in light of the
extensive notification obligations applicable to agriculture as well as by
discussing some relevant disputes and their implications. The participants will also be exposed to the
role and working of the Committee on Agriculture.
