WTO Trade and Public Health Workshop. - Atelier de l'OMC sur le commerce et la santé publique. - Taller de la OMC sobre el comercio y salud pública.
|
Description
This Workshop explores the interlinkages between trade and public health
in a holistic manner. Its objective is to build capacity to analyse, undertake
policy choices and foster coherent decision making.
Participants will be exposed to WTO disciplines
related to public health, as well as to the work undertaken by WIPO and the
WHO. The combination of round-table discussions, presentations by experts
from different disciplines and case studies is designed to stimulate
interaction and experience sharing. In particular, the workshop will cover key
factors that influence innovation and access in the pharmaceutical sector,
including: public health determinants; intellectual property rights; pricing
and procurement policies; competition policy and rules; tariffs, quotas and
licensing; and health services. A separate section will deal with regulatory
issues, including the approval, quality control and effectiveness of medicines,
the protection of clinical test data under the TRIPS Agreement and
health-related measures in the TBT and SPS Committees. Level of Activity: Specialist (Advanced)
