WTO Council for Trade in Services - workshop "Mode 4" - Conseil du commerce des services - atelier "Mode 4" - Consejo del Comercio de Servicios - taller "Modo 4"
Description

The Council for Trade in Services agreed on 30 May that the Secretariat will organise a CTS thematic seminar titled "Mode 4 at work".  The seminar will discuss the temporary movement of natural persons supplying services (i.e. mode 4 of the GATS), an area of key export interest to developing countries in particular.  The event will address the scope of mode 4, it economic importance and impact, WTO bindings and RTA practices.  It will also focus on how Members' specific commitments are implemented.  Given the highly sensitive nature of the topic, particularly in the current political climate, ensuring that key constituents are represented will be crucial to the success of the event.
